Regarding the Cheech is Irani question, I think he may be joking. The linked article is the only reference I been able to find where that is mentioned. He did an interview with CNN though about his art collection and talks about growing up chicano (google cheech chicano cnn.)

That's correct. In my "weekly" (I skipped one owing to the holidays) email sent earlier today I pointed out that one of my answers was flat out wrong, and that's the one. Group W spotted this last night & emailed me about it. As I wrote in today's email, I'll likely publish a retraction tomorrow.

I read this some time ago & got completely suckered by umpteenth generation retelling/urban legends run amok.
